April Appointment

Today was my April monthly appointment. It was also my gestational diabetes test.

I started by making myself a breakfast burrito with a low carb tortilla around 10:30. I then had to wait 2 hours and drink the glucose drink. I finished it at 12:55. Got to the dr office at 1:20 something and told them immediately that I had finished the drink at 12:55 like I was instructed to do. I also wrote it on my check in slip like they asked me. I then waited. At 1:47 I went and said "Um, was I supposed to go somewhere to have my blood drawn?" they asked me again when I had finished the drink. I told them and they sent me next door to have the blood drawn.

There were two people ahead of me and they finally called me at 2. They weren't thrilled I didn't have my paperwork with me but because it's a time sensitive test they went ahead and did the draw anyway. They then escorted me to the other office so they could get the paperwork.

I then waited some more. Finally was called back. Weight was good. Blood pressure was good. The midwife never came back so I saw Dr. Casal. I just love him. Like seriously, for a doctor he is FANTASTIC.

He told me I could take Claritin for allergies and sympathized about the hip pain. He asked if we had picked a pediatrician yet and I said we don't. He said he would put me down for the pediatrician that is at Infinity and he takes his own kids to that doctor, so he personally recommends him.

He said the blood tests from last time came back good.

He then did a fundal measurement (measurement of my belly/uterus) and he said that I was measuring a little big. He asked when my last ultrasound was and I said a month ago. He said he wanted an ultrasound to make sure we hadn't missed a twin or something (!).

So I went back for an ultrasound and confirmed he's still a boy. And he looks good. He is about 1lb 7oz. And apparently there's a lot of extra amniotic fluid which is what is accounting for the larger fundal height.

Dr Casal said that extra fluid can be a symptom of gestational diabetes so he is looking forward to seeing the blood results. He also wants to have another ultrasound next month to check the fluid levels again.

And heres a profile shot!! I think he has Rob's nose. I loved this ultrasound so much more than last times. It was so much clearer and could really see him well. He is SO precious and perfect.
